Critic Mehdi Mansour Writes a Critical Analysis of the Short Film “Lashkhor”: A Narrative of Poverty and Exploitation Through a Disturbed Mind
Mehdi Mansour, a film and theatre critic and cultural researcher based in Ahvaz, has published a new critical analysis of the short film “Lashkhor”, written and directed by Siros Hemmati.
In his analysis, Mansour approaches the film beyond the framework of a conventional crime drama, reading it as a critical examination of poverty, exploitation, and the political economy of marginalized communities.
Mansour argues that the choice of a narrator with an intellectual disability, who is himself trapped within the events of the story, moves the film beyond traditional social realism toward what he calls “impaired perceptual realism.”
The analysis also introduces the concept of “the topology of mise-en-scène”, focusing on the way visual space and the relationships between bodies are constructed within the frame. From this perspective, poverty is represented not merely through physical distance or living conditions, but through the forced compression of bodies within a restricted spatial environment.
The critical text has been written by Mehdi Mansour in three languages: Arabic, Persian, and English, combining cinematic analysis with social, economic, and aesthetic approaches.
The comprehensive analysis examines the film from its title and narrative structure to its characters, visual space, social context, and conclusion, offering a layered reading of the work.
